About Mark
Mark Murphy is an Advisor to CEOs and a Vistage CEO Peer Group Chair serving top executives throughout Orange County, California.
Mark calls forth the clarity and courage of the CEOs he works with to boldly advance their businesses and increase their firms’ value. His deep understanding of the numerical/analytical side of business as well as his mastery of the leadership/human dimension gained through 17 years of Vistage membership, provides his clients with the possibility of substantial improvements in their own leadership and their company’s resulting performance and value.
Mark’s early career included selling business enterprise software and hardware from cold calls through closing, earning his California CPA license with Arthur Young & Company where he was a Senior Consultant in AY’s Entrepreneurial Services Group, serving as the CFO and later COO of a networking software developer, serving as the turnaround CEO of a troubled transportation company, and serving for seven years as the COO of a capital equipment manufacturer.
In 1995, Mark joined Tycom Corporation, where he served for 4 years as the firm’s EVP/CFO and 8 years as COO. Tycom’s revenues grew from $32 million to $88 million and its stock value increased 9x between 1995 and 2000. It was sold in January 2001 to Kyocera (a large Japanese conglomerate), and became Kyocera Tycom Corporation. Mark left Kyocera Tycom in August 2006 to accept a position as the CEO of Pro-Dex, Inc., a publicly traded medical device firm that develops and manufactures powered surgical handpieces. This 6-year assignment resulted in a substantial strengthening of the Company’s balance sheet and cash position.
Mark holds a BA in Business Administration (concentrations in Accounting and Management Information Systems) and an MBA in Finance from the California State University at Fullerton. He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Carla for 34 years. They have four children and five grandchildren.
